Funded by the Embassy to Canada in Lebanon (CFLI), Haqi Awrath implemented a project entitled: ”Enhancing
women’s knowledge and claiming of their right to inheritance in Lebanon’s Baalbeck-
Hermel governorate through research, training, legal advice and advocacy”. It started on August
2023, and ended on 28 February 2024 (7 months) During
this project, 264 Lebanese women received trainings about Economic Gender Based
Violence EGBV,
inheritance laws and the ways in which women are deprived of their rights. Researches and statistics about the deprivation of women from their right to inheritance were conducted in Baalbek city and in 5 villages located in Baalbek district where
1000 surveys were filled by 20 enumerators during one week. In addition, 50
women received free legal advices. An awareness campaign about the right of women
to property and inheritance has been conducted on the pages of the association. 15
interviews with influencers (Mayors, notaries, lawyers, faith leaders…), 5 focus
groups discussion about and 15 case studies were done in order to explore in deep the
causes of the economic violence against women that is the deprivation of inheritance.
