Raising Awareness and Building Skills for Women’s Rights
Funded by The Zovighian Partnership (Cycle 2), the Haqi-Aaraf project was implemented in collaboration with Women Now for Development in both the Baalbek-Hermel Governorate (Baalbek city, El-Khoder village, and surrounding areas) and the Beqaa Governorate (Chtoura, Majdel Anjar, and neighboring communities). The project spanned ten months, beginning in November 2022 and concluding in August 2023.
Haqqi-Awrath led the legal awareness component by providing a series of structured legal training sessions focused on inheritance laws and the systemic practices that lead to women’s deprivation of their rights. These sessions, conducted in seven cycles, reached 70 Lebanese women and empowered them with critical legal knowledge and tools to assert their inheritance rights. In parallel, Women Now implemented a set of vocational and educational empowerment activities targeting Syrian women and adolescent girls. This included courses in crochet, sewing, and beauty, which benefited 75 participants, as well as Arabic literacy classes for 40 women and girls, enhancing their basic education and self-reliance. As part of the project’s outreach and community engagement efforts, a theatrical performance titled Habbat Foul, focusing on themes of social cohesion, was held in a public space and attended by around 500 students. The performance served as a creative entry point to engage younger audiences in discussions around coexistence and equality. The project also featured a comprehensive media campaign that utilized both social media platforms and traditional media outlets to disseminate key messages around women’s rights and legal empowerment.
