Supporting Food Security and Livelihoods in El-Khoder

Funded by OCHA and implemented in collaboration with ACTED and LOST, the Sahha and Afieh project addressed urgent food security needs in El-Khoder, located in the Baalbek district. The project ran for two months, from May to June 2023, and focused on supporting the most vulnerable families through direct food assistance and short-term employment opportunities.

The project served 90 families—60 Lebanese and 30 Syrian—benefiting approximately 450 individuals living in dire conditions. Haqqi-Awrath Association provided these families with nutritious meal kits and food parcels over the course of two months. In addition to food distribution, the project contributed to local livelihood support by offering short-term employment to 18 local cooks and 24 young individuals from the community.

A modest community kitchen was established at the Haqqi-Awrath center to facilitate meal preparation and distribution, marking an important step toward sustainable local food solutions. The project successfully combined humanitarian relief with community engagement and economic support, contributing to both immediate needs and local resilience.
