Production of theater performance titled “Reihana Returned”

“Reihana Returned” is an advocacy-oriented theater initiative that uses art as a powerful tool to challenge gender inequality and promote women’s inheritance rights in Lebanon. The play confronts harmful social norms surrounding forced marriage, discrimination, and the exclusion of women from family assets.

Through the story of Reihana—a young woman who chooses education, autonomy, and justice over patriarchal expectations—the performance highlights the long-term social consequences of denying women their rights, while emphasizing accountability, reconciliation, and equality.

Presented in six performances across schools and public spaces in the Baalbek district, the play reached more than 1,800 people, including youth, families, educators, and community leaders. The initiative generated strong emotional engagement and community dialogue, with audiences—especially women and young people—expressing increased awareness and interest in women’s rights and social justice.

“Reihana Returned” illustrates how creative advocacy and community engagement can effectively advance gender equality and position women’s inheritance rights as a core issue of dignity and social cohesion.
